panacea

Humans have a tendency to believe that they can fix anything. Fixing things seems to be a comfort to man. We cant always fix everything, but we can try to fix the things that we can. In some ways, fixing things is a way to keep ourselves busy or occupied in order to procrastinate or stray from our own problems. Metaphorically speaking, fixing things can refer to problems within ourselves that we struggle with, but it can also mean physically fixing an object. Both of these outlooks relate back to the idea that humans are always trying to be the solution to every question without an answer. We all know the story about Adam and Eve. They were seeking perfection by eating the forbidden fruit in order to become perfect and powerful just like God. Humans still do this today. We are constantly striving for perfection because we believe that what we have at the time isn't' good enough. We either have to get something better, or fix what we think is broken. Fixing things comes from our innate idea that everything needs to have structure and order because thats what we find comfort in. Jesus used to be a carpenter which means he was constantly fixing and building things. Men today are still doing jobs that are similar to this which means that some things haven't changed. Why do you think that men more often than not find themselves working laborious jobs while women do just the opposite? Why do humans try to fix everybody else's problems even though we have unsolved issues of our own? Do you think this tells us something about our society and the way we live today?

  1. Well, referring to your comment to Jesus being a carpenter, first off something to think about could be if Jesus was referring himself as a metaphorical carpenter as well as a realistic carpenter, and secondly, men in that culture were know for doing the "hard jobs". No disrespect to women, but in that time period, women really weren't allowed to do that type of work and weren't given the utmost respect, so the men had to do those jobs. However, it is very likely that it was quote "busy work" to get their minds off of whatever they were thinking about (I mean who knows, Jesus could've done carpentry as a type of meditation to sooth his soul while talking to God as a ). We have found out that humans fix other people's problems for self satisfaction and for the satisfaction and praise from their peers. This is evident in our government. The want to try and fix all the American's problems (which is great and I' totally for), but they dont want to take the time to realize they have corruption within themselves as a whole.

  2. I don't think that men are the only ones working laborious jobs. I think woman also work at those jobs, but we mostly see men. I think that we often see men working this jobs because women, if in a family, usually take up the responsibilty to take care of the kids by, taking them to school, going to the grocery store, picking up the carpool, dropping them off at soccer, picking them up, takinging them home, cook dinner, and do the other 100 things on their list. We find the humans usually try to fix everyone eles problem eventhough they have a problem of their own, because usually they just want to help, or they want everything to be perfect. For example, sometimes I try to help or fix something for a friend because I just want to help them, but others may want to do something for someone else because they want everything to be perfect.
